THE CENTRAL Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in January 2023 as many as 735.95 thousand visits, up 503.34% compared to the condition in January 2022 which reached 121.98 thousand visits.
However, the number of foreign tourist visits in January 2023 actually decreased by 17.78% compared to the previous month which reached 895.12 foreign tourist visits.
“The number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in January 2023 was 735.9 thousand visits, down 17.78 percent compared to December 2022. While on an annual basis this number grew by 503.34%,” BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini said in a presentation monitored online in Jakarta, Wednesday (03/01).
Pudji noted that in January 2023, as many as 620.9 thousand foreign tourist visits entered through the main entrance and the remaining 115 thousand entered through the border entrance.
The number of foreign tourist visits through the main entrance was down 19.07% compared to December 2022. Likewise, the number of foreign tourist visits through border entrances also fell by 10.09% compared to December 2022.
Pudji explained that foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in January 2023 were dominated by foreign tourists of Malaysian nationality which accounted for 15.26%; followed by foreign tourists of Australian nationality (13.46%); Singapore (13.05%); Timor Leste (9.57%); and India (4.46%).
The number of foreign tourist visits through the main entrances by air transportation mode in January 2023 was recorded at 485.25 thousand visits, up 3,233.87% compared to the condition in January 2022. The number of visits at Soekarno-Hatta Airport jumped sharply by 721.36%, followed by Sam Ratulangi Airport-North Sulawesi by 72.53%.
The number of foreign tourist visits through the main entrance by sea transportation mode in January 2023 was recorded at 127.27 thousand visits, a sharp increase of 36,365.62% compared to the number of visits in January 2022 which was recorded at 349 visits.
This increase was influenced by an increase in the number of visits at Tanjung Benoa Port-Bali by 62,400% and Batam Port-Riau Islands by 39,169.58%.
The number of foreign tourists visiting through the main entrance by land transportation mode in January 2023 reached 8,395 visits, an increase of 3,487.61% compared to the condition in January 2022 with the largest increase at the Atambua-East Nusa Tenggara entrance. [antaranews]
