GREEN INVESTMENT BECOMES CHOICE IN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy invites investors to prioritize green investment as the main choice in developing sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno at the opening of the 2023 International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) in Merusaka Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (7/26), 2023, said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, tourists are more likely to choose destinations that prioritize environmentally sustainable and small-scale tourism. The same goes for tourism investment trends.

“We believe that investment after COVID-19 puts forward investments that are personalized, localized, bigger in impact but smaller in size. Apart from that, this investment refers to green investment and this is the future of our economy,” said Sandiaga in his remarks.

The green investment in question is an investment that prioritizes sustainability and environmental sustainability in the tourism sector and this trend will continue in the future. In addition, based on the data he obtained, in 2022, Indonesia will receive foreign direct investment (FDI) in the tourism sector of US$225.28 billion and domestic direct investment (Domestic Direct Investment) of US$577.87 billion and in the first quarter of 2023, Indonesia will receive investment of US$803.15 billion.

Thus, this forum is expected to become an arena for sharing experiences and ideas between investors and related stakeholders in the context of developing sustainable tourism in Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia has advantages in terms of natural and cultural wealth.

Therefore, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy developed the CHSE (cleanliness, health, safety, and environmental sustainability) protocol as an effort to increase tourist and investor confidence as an effort to develop an environmentally sustainable tourism sector.

“We have to think out of the box in developing existing tourism potential. Because tourism is not a problem, but tourism is part of the post-pandemic (economic) solution,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
