THE INDONESIA’S GOV’T EVALUATES VISA-FREE BASED ON RECIPROCITY TO SECURITY

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy said the government would evaluate the granting of visa-free entry based on three things, namely reciprocity, usefulness and security.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, after attending a limited meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/01), 2023, said that previously we had visa-free visits for 159 countries plus 10 ASEAN countries. This will be evaluated based on three things, namely reciprocity, usefulness, and security.

“The evaluation will be carried out by the government for the next month. This evaluation is to realize quality and sustainable growth of Indonesian tourism. There are still many opportunities for the Indonesian tourism sector to grow in a quality and sustainable manner,” he said.

He added, the government wants tourists who come to Indonesia to be tourists who can have an impact on the economy, such as opening business and employment opportunities.

“The economy is moving, and of course the number of jobs in the tourism sector and the creative economy is increasing. Going forward, Indonesia is targeting a visit length of over 7 days and spending US$1,000 per tourist.

Meanwhile regarding the Golden Visa policy, Sandiaga said that currently the policy is still in the finalization stage. The Government Regulation will be finalized and will be finalized soon after obtaining approval from the President.

Previously, the government temporarily suspended visa-free visits for 159 countries through the Decree of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Number M.HH-01.GR.01.07 of 2023. According to information on the official website of the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, granting visa-free visits has an impact on aspects state life.

The aspects of life as a nation in question include disturbance of public order and the spread of diseases from countries that have not been declared clean or free of certain diseases from the World Health Organization. [antaranews/photo special]
