THERE ARE five major countries contributing to foreign tourist visits to Indonesia, namely Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India and the UK this year.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said that of the five top ranking countries, India is considered very strong, so Indonesia must be prepared to increase the number of promotions and direct flights to increase the level of tourist arrivals from that country.
“America is also in the top 10, while China is knocked out of the top 10. So our evaluation is that India is very strong and we have to increase the number of promotions and direct flights so that the tourism we hope to revive in 2024, namely 14 million, can be of better quality and sustainable,” Sandiaga Uno said in Jakarta recently.
Sandiaga explained that the target for foreign tourist visits this year had been exceeded by almost 50% of the total initial target of 7.4 million people.
“Now we are aiming for 11 million. The favorite destination is still 50 percent to the island of Bali. But now it has started to spread to Jakarta, the Riau Islands, as well as the five Super Priority Destinations Lake Toba, Borobudur, Labuan Bajo, Mandalika and Likupang,” he noted.
On this occasion, Sandiaga also discussed the significant contribution of the U-17 World Cup to tourism in the country. According to him, it is now clear that the total number of spectators for the U-17 World Cup is approaching 400 thousand or more.
“This is encouraging because it is above our target. We hope that the final will be the highlight and we are grateful that the impact of the total target we stated, namely visits of 5 thousand to 10 thousand tourists, was achieved with a total contribution target of around US$50 to US$75 million,” concluded Sandiaga.
