PT AIRASIA Indonesia Tbk is optimistic that it will be able to record growth in the number of passengers in 2024. The airline is even targeting to exceed the record before the COVID-19 pandemic period, namely around 8 million passengers.
According to the Head of Indonesia Affairs and Policy AirAsia Indonesia, Eddy Krismeidi Soemawilaga Monday (02/12), 2024, explained that throughout 2023 the recovery rate of domestic and international air transport passengers in Indonesia had reached above 80% compared to 2019.
“AirAsia Indonesia is optimistic that the recovery trend will continue in 2024. According to him, the prospects for passenger growth this year tend to be quite good. Along with this prospect, AirAsia targets to record a better number of passengers compared to the pre-pandemic period in 2019,” he said.
He explained, with additional aircraft in operation to strengthen the fleet, we project that this year’s target is to recover more than the number of passengers carried before the pandemic in 2019 of 8 million passengers.
To achieve this target, Eddy said that his party is currently focusing on reactivating the existing fleet. He explained that until December 2023, AirAsia had operated 25 of the total 32 aircraft owned by the company.
Eddy added that AirAsia will try to reactivate the 7 aircraft fleet that are not operational yet. Then, AirAsia will also maximize the utilization of all existing aircraft by opening domestic and international routes.
In addition, the company will also expand its network in Asia and the Pacific, by entering new markets and securing market share on targeted routes.
“AirAsia Indonesia also plans to enter 6 new countries & launch 13 new international routes this year. “This effort is the company’s strategy to diversify into new markets to gain a competitive advantage, reduce risk & increase revenue,” he remarked.
Then, AirAsia also focused on optimizing fleet placement in Jakarta and Bali. AirAsia plans to add 4 aircraft in these two areas, with additional details of 1 aircraft at Soekarno-Hatta Airport and 3 aircraft at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
“This addition is to secure valuable parking spaces at both busy airports, and focus growth primarily on entering new international countries,” said Eddy.
Fleet additions will also be made in Medan to 3 aircraft, or an increase of 1 compared to the pre-pandemic period. Eddy said this was done to maintain international leadership outside Medan and increase time for international operations to Bangkok and Penang.
“We will also maintain 4 aircraft in Surabaya to strengthen existing routes and expand to Australia and Brunei using the existing fleet,” he concluded. [sources/photo special]
