ITO 2025: INTEGRATION OF BLUE-GREEN-ECONOMY AND AI REALIZING TOURISM

IN THE annual Indonesia Tourism Outlook (ITO) 2025 event which carries the theme “Integration of Blue-Green-Circular Economy (BGCE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Realizing Sustainable Tourism in Indonesia (RI)” held at the Aston Kemayoran Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (10/10), 2024.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, while delivering the keynote speech ITO 2025 held by the Tourism and Creative Economy Journalists Forum (Forwarparekraf) encouraged all elements of the pentahelix, namely academics, business, community, government and media (media publications) to work together in developing quality and sustainable tourism.

“This is important as the current tourism trend continues to move towards tourism that is more personalized, customized, localized and smaller in scale. I appreciate the holding of the Indonesia Tourism Outlook (ITO) 2025 with a theme that is in line with current tourism trends, including the integration of digital technology,” Sandiaga said.

Sandiaga revealed that the performance of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia showed a positive increase, where cumulatively from January to August 2024 it had reached 9.09 million or an increase of 20.38% compared to the same period last year.

“Meanwhile, for domestic tourists cumulatively in the period from January to August 2024, the number of domestic tourists reached 5.99 million. An increase of 19.20% compared to the same period last year. This increasing condition is predicted to continue along with the need for sustainable tourism as the future of the tourism sector. This is also in line with the digital transformation in the world that must be adopted by tourism stakeholders in the country,” he said.

Sandiaga explained that the World Economic Forum (WEF) report released on May 21, 2024 showed that Indonesia was among the 10 countries with the best TTDI performance since 2019, with a score increase of 4.5%. Indonesia is now ranked 22nd out of 119 countries, ahead of Belgium, 6th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 2nd in ASEAN. This success is the result of the pentahelix cooperation of all stakeholders in the tourism sector.

Therefore, Sandiaga continued, there is no saying no to the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology as one of today’s digital transformations. The concept of a sustainable economy, which includes the Blue Economy, the Green Economy and the Circular Economy, is also becoming increasingly relevant. The integration of the Blue-Green-Circular Economy (BGCE) concept with AI technology to realize environmentally friendly, efficient and sustainable tourism should be done at an early stage.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Tourism and Creative Economy Journalists Forum (Forwarparekraf), Pasha Yudha Ernowo, hoped in his speech that the discussion at ITO 2025 could produce concrete policy recommendations and build synergy between the government, private sector, and the community.

“Let’s work together to make Indonesia a leader in sustainable tourism with the support of technological innovation and sustainable economic practices,” he said.

Likewise, the Director of Strategic Studies at the Ministry of Tourism, Agustini Rahayu, who was a resource person at the same occasion, said that in the National Medium-Term Development Plan 2025-2029 (RPJMN), the development of quality tourism destinations is carried out according to market preferences that are evolving towards sustainable and regenerative tourism.

“That is, with the expansion of tourism that focuses on the blue, green and circular economy. Including the development of green infrastructure for basic infrastructure and tourism support to improve its human resources,” Ayu stressed.
