ERICK THOHIR: NO NEED TO BUILD TERMINAL 4 AT SOEKARNO-HATTA AIRPORT

MINISTER of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir announced that the BUMN Ministry under his leadership has reviewed the need to build Terminal 4 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“The airport in Jakarta had previously proposed the construction of Terminal 4, which would cost almost IDR14 trillion, but after we reviewed it, it turned out that Terminal 4 was not needed,” Erick said in a working meeting with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (11/04), 2024.

According to him, to accommodate passengers at this airport, his party only needs to renovate the existing terminal. Therefore, the amount of money spent by the government will be less.

“But it only requires IDR1 trillion for repairs compared to terminals 1, 2 and 3, so we can see an increase of almost 80-100 million (passengers), which is extraordinary efficiency,” Erick explained.

In addition to Jakarta, Erick also mentioned I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. “In Bali, we are also implementing efficiency, namely through various renovations, so that later the number of passengers can grow from 24 million to 32 million without a new airport,” said Erick.

However, he did not rule out the construction of new aviation facilities in the land of the gods. “Of course, if there is an additional airport in front of it, yes please, because if we look at Bali, the number can be 50 (million passengers) to 100 million (passengers),” he affirmed.

He added that earlier, Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad spoke about the progress of the Terminal 4 airport project at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which already has an initial design for the construction of the terminal.

“Terminal 4 will significantly increase the number of passengers. According to him, there will be at least 55 million additional passengers at Soekarno-Hatta. In 2018, the construction of Terminal 4 at Soetta Airport was planned to begin in 2022,” Erick concluded. [sources/photo special]
