THE RUPIAH exchange rate against the United States (US) dollar and the euro suddenly rose in Google Finance searches on Saturday (02/1) 2025 afternoon.
From the monitoring of kontan.co.id, the rupiah was said to be at IDR8,170 per US dollar and against the Euro, the rupiah was at IDR8,348. In fact, at the close of trading on Friday (01/31), the rupiah spot rate closed down 0.30% to IDR16,305 per US dollar.
Suddenly, this became a hot topic among the public, especially on social media. In fact, this incident became a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter) with the keyword “1 USD”.
Bank Indonesia (BI) Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, she also commented on this incident. She said that the rupiah figure displayed on Google Finance was a technical error.
“There was a technical error. And only for the rupiah against the US dollar and the euro,” Destry said as quoted by kontan.co.id, Saturday (1/2).
Destry also provided a screenshot of the rupiah level on the Bloomberg monitor and a search on Yahoo Finance. Bloomberg data shows that the rupiah exchange rate is still in the range of IDR16,300 against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, Yahoo Finance data shows the rupiah exchange rate at IDR16,294 per US dollar.
Destry also said that her party was currently coordinating with Google on the issue. “Our team is in contact (with) Google to resolve this issue,” she concluded. [photo special]
