HOWEVER, the question arises: Does the concept make the hotel rental price per night more expensive?
“We have not investigated whether sustainability at the hotel makes room prices per night higher. It should not be like that,” said Colliers Indonesia’s Head of Research, Ferry Salanto, in a media briefing on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
If environmentally friendly principles significantly increase rental costs, this could pose a challenge to the hospitality industry.
“If the costs are too high, of course, this will place an increasing burden on the hotel and may not be worth it,” he said.
However, there is no data explaining comprehensive price differences. This issue is said to still be homework that will be investigated further.
Ferry also mentioned one industrial area that has begun to implement sustainable development concepts.
“What I know is that this began in KIIC (Karawang International Industrial City). They have started creating more environmentally friendly areas in their region,” he explained.
Although not yet comprehensive, some areas have begun to adopt more stringent environmental standards.
“Not all areas have adopted these standards, but some have developed areas that comply with these standards. This can actually be applied as long as there is a will,” he added.
He also made a comparison to other sectors where environmentally friendly buildings had first been implemented, such as offices.
“For example, in the office industry, there are differences in rent for green offices and green buildings. The rental rate is different from non-green buildings,” concluded Ferry. [kompas.com/photo special]
