ATTRACTING TOURIST, CHINA HOLDS TECHNOLOGY-BASED TOURISM FESTIVAL

YUNCHENG City in Shanxi Province, northern China, is a famous tourist destination known as the hometown of Guan Yu, a valiant hero and main character in the Three Kingdoms literature.

In recent years, Yuncheng has leveraged its tourism resources, combining cultural and historical elements with high technology to empower its tourism industry.

“Guan Yu is renowned for his bravery, loyalty, and honesty, and has long been revered as a god not only in China but also among Chinese people around the world,” said Fu Wenyuan, head of the Guan Di Xiezhou Temple Cultural Preservation Institute in Yuncheng.

At the 36th Guan Gong (or Kwan Kong) Cultural Tourism Festival currently underway in Yuncheng, dozens of cultural and historical artifacts featuring Guan Yu from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and several other countries are on display in an exhibition hall, demonstrating Guan Yu’s role in Chinese cultural exchange worldwide.

“There’s also a Kwan Kong temple in Thailand because Guan Yu is a famous figure in Thailand. We admire his loyalty and courage,” said a Thai visitor.

Fu stated that they are collaborating with various cultural and historical institutions from over 40 countries and regions to enhance exchanges and interactions related to the protection of cultural relics and the promotion of Guan Yu and the Three Kingdoms culture, as well as jointly contributing to charitable projects.

A number of high-tech features added to the excitement of the tourism festival. An interactive augmented reality film, “Guan Di Fu Mo,” simulated wind, temperature, and the experience of horseback riding and combat, making spectators feel as if they were fighting alongside Guan Yu in ancient times.

Furthermore, the organizers presented a laser light show, using the Zhongtiao Mountains as a giant natural screen to tell the legend of Guan Yu. A number of creative cultural souvenirs were also presented at the event, successfully attracting many customers. [antaranews]
