THE MINISTRY of Tourism, along with the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF), is promoting improved safety and security for marine tourism, particularly in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
According to Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa, in an official statement received in Jakarta, said security and safety are key factors in tourism activities, including marine tourism. To this end, the Ministry of Tourism has taken policy measures.
“This including Ministerial Regulation No. 7 of 2016 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Recreational Diving and Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2025 concerning Business Activity Standards for Risk-Based Business Licensing in the Tourism Sector, particularly for Domestic Sea Transportation for Tourism,” she said.
Nih Luh explained that the Ministry of Tourism is also managing marine tourism destinations through outreach and cross-sector coordination to encourage the implementation of risk and disaster management modules at marine tourism destinations, as well as various other modules. This effort is being undertaken because the safety and security of marine tourism is a fundamental aspect of tourism.
In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Agency for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (BPOLBF) held a “Safety Talk” event in Labuan Bajo on Thursday (04/16), 2026 as a strategic step to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.
This event also serves as a form of implementation of the Ministry of Tourism’s flagship program, namely improving tourism safety, which includes efforts to promote the quality of marine tourism products as one of Indonesia’s leading tourism sectors.
Meanwhile Agustinus Gias, Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of West Manggarai Regency, stated that tourist confidence, especially international ones, depends heavily on guaranteed safety and security through cross-stakeholder collaboration.
“The tourist boat accident that occurred in Labuan Bajo should serve as a momentum for collective improvement,” he noted.
According to him, pride in Labuan Bajo tourism will be truly realized if safety and service are a key pillar that cannot be compromised again.
“Tourist safety and security in Labuan Bajo is a shared responsibility between the government, port authorities, security forces, and business actors, who must work hand in hand,” said Agustinus.
Likewise, Itok Parikesit, Assistant Deputy for Tourism Product Development at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that safety is the main foundation for developing quality and sustainable marine tourism.
This includes strengthening cross-sector collaboration through effective coordination, establishing a crisis management team, developing more applicable measures in the field, and ongoing evaluation.
“All stakeholders are expected to have clear roles and responsibilities in maintaining safety standards, so that Labuan Bajo’s immense potential can be supported by a robust security system and provide a safe experience for tourists,” Itok concluded. [traveltext.id]
