THE MINISTRY of Tourism outlined a number of efforts it has undertaken to develop destinations in other regions, expected to become favorites for tourists beyond Bali.
“We continue to encourage tourism industry players to develop thematic tourism packages based on gastronomy, wellness, marine tourism, textiles, and arts and culture in various leading destinations. This development is focused on 10 Priority Tourism Destinations (DPP) and 3 Regenerative Tourism Destinations (DPR): Bali, Greater Jakarta, and the Riau Islands,” the ministry told antaranews in Jakarta on Saturday (06/13), 2026.
The Ministry of Tourism stated that it has collaborated with partners, travel agents, and tour operators (TA/TO) to strengthen the promotion and marketing of Indonesian tourism. This collaboration is carried out through tour package sales programs, business matching, and familiarization trips (fam trips) to leading destinations, specifically the 10 Priority Tourism Destinations (DPP) and 3 Regenerative Tourism Destinations (DPR).
This was conveyed in response to the request of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) to the Ministry of Tourism to move away from focusing on Bali as the mainstay of tourism and to develop other destinations, during a joint Working Meeting with the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday (March 6).
This strategy has driven a significant increase in foreign tourist visits to the 10 DPPs, particularly to Lombok-Gili Tramen, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (BTS), and Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan. This has also led to an increase in foreign tourist visits to Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, Manado-Likupang, Bangka-Belitung, Raja Ampat, Wakatobi, and Morotai.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism is also encouraging an increase in international tourist visits to the 10 Priority Tourism Destinations (DPP).
Significant increases were particularly evident in Lombok-Gili Tramena, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (BTS), Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan. This increase was also recorded in other priority destinations, such as Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, Manado-Likupang, Bangka Belitung, Raja Ampat, Wakatobi, and Morotai.
Nevertheless, the Ministry of Tourism stated that Bali remains Indonesia’s main tourism magnet for attracting international tourists.
During the period from January to April 2026, approximately 43.1% of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia entered through Bali’s main gateways: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and Tanjung Benoa Port.
In April 2026, of the total 1.25 million foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia, 553,328 were recorded through these two gateways. [antaranews]
