THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism is targeting 19.1 million foreign tourists to visit Indonesia by 2027.
“We are committed to continuously optimizing all available resources so that tourism can make a greater contribution to the national economy, creating jobs, increasing foreign exchange, and improving public welfare,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardahana at a Joint Working Meeting with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta, Wednesday (06/17), 2026.
This figure is an increase from the government’s 2026 target of 16 to 17.6 million foreign tourist visits.
According to Widiyanti, the government will focus on developing higher-quality and sustainable tourism to encourage the sector’s greater contribution to the national economy.
Next year’s priority program will focus on developing high-quality and sustainable tourism, with priority activities including the completion of 10 priority destinations and the development of three regenerative destinations.
The government is targeting national economic growth of 5.8–6.5%. Meanwhile, business sectors closely related to the tourism sector, namely accommodation, food, and beverages, are targeted to grow by 8.7–9.3%.
To support this target, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated a number of interventions, including improving the quality of human resources, tourism marketing, developing quality attractions and events, strengthening sustainable tourism, developing destinations, and developing an inclusive industry and supply chain.
Tourism is also mandated to increase its contribution by 2027. This is reflected in the increase in all of the Ministry of Tourism’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) targets compared to 2026.
Several targets have been set, including foreign tourist arrivals of 17.6–19.1 million, an increase of approximately 8.5–10%. Average Spending per Arrival (ASPA) is targeted to reach US$1,447–1,497, an increase of approximately 5.5–6.6%.
The increase in foreign tourist activity is also expected to contribute US$25.5–28.6 billion in tourism foreign exchange, representing a growth of approximately 16% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, domestic tourist trips are targeted to reach 1.28 billion, representing an 8.5% increase compared to 2026. The tourism sector is also targeted to employ 27.33 million people, representing a 3% increase.
The tourism sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is targeted to reach 4.7–4.8%, representing an increase of approximately 0.4 percentage points. Tourism investment next year is targeted to reach IDR71 trillion, representing an increase of approximately 11.8% compared to the previous year.
According to the Minister of Finance’s letter, the Ministry of Tourism received a budget allocation of IDR1.01 trillion, which will be used to support the achievement of the Indonesian Consumer Competency Index (KPI) and address various strategic issues in the tourism sector.
“Despite the limited available budget, the Ministry of Tourism is committed to ensuring that every rupiah of the budget has an optimal impact on the development of the tourism sector,” she concluded. [traveltext.id]
