PRESIDENT PRABOWO URGES HIMBARA TO LOWER MSME LOAN INTEREST RATES

PRESIDENT Prabowo Subianto has asked the top brass of Himbara, which includes Bank Mandiri, BNI, BTN, BRI, and BSI, to ensure that loan interest rates for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are lower than those for corporations.

In a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, the President emphasized that MSMEs still receive higher loan interest rates than corporations.

“It’s precisely these small and medium-sized enterprises that sometimes receive higher interest rates than corporations, or even the same level, even though they should be lower. This is to ensure that the public, especially MSMEs, truly feels the benefits,” said Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), and CEO of Danantara, at a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday evening (06/18), 2026.

At the Presidential Palace today, President Prabowo delivered a special briefing to the heads of five state-owned banks: Bank Mandiri President Director Riduan, BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan, BRI President Director Hery Gunardi, Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) President Director Nixon L.P. Napitupulu, and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) President Commissioner Muhadjir Effendy.

The event was also attended by Danantara CEO and Danantara CIO Pandu Sjahrir, as well as ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

In the same meeting, Rosan mentioned that President Prabowo also reminded state-owned banks to maintain prudent principles in conducting their businesses.

President Prabowo further emphasized that these banks are the “lifeblood of the Indonesian economy,” given that the total market capitalization of the five state-owned banks reaches IDR 1,100 trillion, equivalent to approximately 10 percent of the total value of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

Therefore, President Prabowo also emphasized that Himbara banks play a crucial role in the success of the government’s strategic programs. Prabowo emphasized that the food sector, which is a key determinant of national independence, must also receive special attention from Himbara banks.

He emphasized that the most important thing for the national economy in the future must be a self-sufficient economy, supported and assisted by the banking sector, especially the Indonesian Banking Association (Himbara).

“Because again, the Indonesian Banking Association (Himbara) plays a very strategic role, not only in financing but also in economic growth and future national policies,” Rosan said, summarizing the points of President Prabowo’s briefing for Himbara officials. [antaranews]
