THE MINISTRY of Tourism is strengthening its collaboration with the Indonesian Tourism Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) to encourage investment and development in Indonesian tourism.
This collaboration is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana and BPI Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani at the Danantara Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (08/12), 2026.
“The signing of this memorandum of understanding reflects a strong spirit of collaboration and shared vision in promoting increasingly high-quality, competitive, and sustainable Indonesian tourism. This collaboration is also a concrete step in supporting the President’s vision, particularly in promoting sustainable economic growth and public welfare,” said Minister Widiyanti.
She explained that tourism plays a strategic role in realizing this vision because it can drive investment, create jobs, and create added economic value throughout the regions.
This role is reflected in the achievements of the national tourism sector, which generated foreign exchange of US$18.27 billion, equivalent to IDR305.4 trillion, in 2025. The tourism sector also contributed to job creation for 25.91 million people.
This positive momentum continued in 2026. From January to June 2026, the number of foreign tourist arrivals grew 5.71% compared to the same period the previous year.
“This achievement demonstrates the resilience of the Indonesian tourism sector, which continues to grow and make a real contribution to the national economy amidst geopolitical dynamics,” said Widiyanti.
She believes that the capacities of the Ministry of Tourism and Danantara can complement each other in supporting the national development agenda while accelerating the progress of Indonesian tourism.
Danantara, with its funding capacity and investment reach, is strategically positioned to support the development of destinations, infrastructure, and the tourism investment ecosystem. This collaboration is expected to open up wider opportunities for the development of the tourism sector that provides sustainable economic benefits.
“We hope this spirit of collaboration can be maintained so that every opportunity for cooperation can be developed productively, sustainably, and accountably. What’s most important is how this understanding can be translated into concrete steps that have a real impact,” she affirmed.
The scope of the Joint Understanding includes the exchange of data and information related to tourism development; increasing the capacity of tourism human resources; developing tourism destinations and/or facilities and infrastructure; and developing special interest tourism products.
The collaboration also covers the development of the tourism industry and investment; marketing tourism domestically and internationally; and supporting the development and implementation of tourism events.
Meanwhile, Rosan Roeslani, CEO of BPI Danantara, stated that the tourism sector holds a strategic position in driving Indonesia’s economic growth. As stated by President Prabowo Subianto, tourism is a sector that can be developed rapidly and has a significant multiplier effect on various industries, including the creation of quality and sustainable jobs.
“This collaboration is a very important strategic step so that collaboration and engagement between Danantara and its entire ecosystem can support the growth of the tourism sector,” Rosan noted.
According to Rosan, collaboration opportunities can cover various areas, including the development of hotels under the InJourney umbrella to improve tourist comfort and encourage them to stay longer at destinations.
Collaboration can also be developed through organizing various tourism activities, including concerts by international artists, which have the potential to increase the attractiveness of destinations while increasing the economic turnover from tourism activities.
“So, it’s not just about quantity, but what’s also important is that tourists stay longer and spend more, which will have a significant impact on the economy, not only regionally but also nationally,” said Rosan.
Rosan hopes that the signing of the Joint Understanding will serve as a foundation for the implementation of various concrete programs between Danantara and the Ministry of Tourism.
