ERASTUS Radjimin, Founder & CEO of ARTOTEL Group (AG), highlighted the importance of nature restoration as part of efforts to build long-term sustainability and resilience within Indonesia’s hospitality industry.
He shared this perspective during the Sustainability Talk titled “Building Resilience Through Nature: Why Investing in Nature Matters for Business Resilience,” held recently, at The Rooang at Bimasena, Jakarta. Attended by executives, business leaders, investors, sustainability practitioners, hospitality leaders, and media representatives, the discussion brought together cross-industry perspectives on the connection between investment in nature, destination sustainability, and business resilience.
According to Erastus Radjimin said as a hospitality company operating hotels across various destinations in Indonesia, Artotel Group recognises that nature is an integral part of its business ecosystem. From hotel development to daily operations, the hospitality industry relies on a range of natural resources.
“Therefore, protecting and restoring the environment is an important part of the company’s responsibility to its guests, employees, hotel owners, local communities, and the destinations where its hotels operate,” he said.
He also added that in line with this commitment, AG has strengthened the implementation of its Environtment, Sustainability, Governance (ESG) programs since 2022 through The Art of Goodness. AG believes that sustainability should be translated into tangible actions, measurable targets, and results that can be monitored. Nature restoration is one of the ways the Group is expanding its sustainability impact beyond hotel operations and into the wider environment and destinations.
“Nature restoration is not simply about planting trees, but about protecting and restoring ecosystems so they can continue to provide benefits for future generations. For us, investing in nature is part of a long-term investment in maintaining the sustainability of destinations while building resilience within the hospitality business,” Erastus affirmed.
He explained that nature restoration also plays a role in building healthier destinations and stronger communities, while strengthening the resilience of the hospitality industry in facing long-term challenges.
ARTOTEL Group is currently collaborating with Bumiterra, a B Corp-certified nature restoration company in Indonesia, fully supported by local communities, to restore one hectare of land in Rumbih Village, West Kalimantan.
“The initiative goes beyond tree planting, encompassing ongoing care and the restoration of biodiversity within the rainforest ecosystem.
