THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism reported that Indonesia’s participation in “Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ) 2026” in Tokyo, Japan, generated a potential for 5,600 tourist visits, with estimated potential foreign exchange earnings of US$7.168 million—or approximately IDR127 billion.
“This achievement indicates market opportunities that can be pursued by strengthening business communications and developing tour packages tailored to the interests of Japanese tourists,” said the Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in a statement on Friday (February 10, 2026).
“TEJ 2026” took place from September 24–27, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight, featuring participation from 40 countries with around 400 co-exhibitors, 500 booths, and over 44,000 visitors.
Indonesia presented a 54-square-meter “Wonderful Indonesia” Pavilion, involving eight tourism industry players: Garuda Indonesia, Wendy Tour, Menjaga Bay Hotel, Kuno Villas, DMC White Tiger Bali, The Yoga Barn, Adventure Indonesia, and The Mulia Resorts & Villas.
In addition to destination promotion, the pavilion hosted various interactive activities, such as an “Indonesia Coffee Corner” serving coffee from Temanggung, Central Java, as well as cultural performances from Bali, North Sumatra, and East Nusa Tenggara.
The Ministry also conducted a survey of 1,614 visitors to the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion. The results showed that 63.3 percent of respondents had never visited Indonesia, while 36.7 percent had prior experience traveling to the country. Bali emerged as the most popular destination at 86.2%, followed by Komodo Island and Labuan Bajo (5.3%), Borobudur (4%), Raja Ampat (1.7%), Lake Toba (1.5%), and Lombok (1.2%).
“These findings serve as a basis for strengthening Indonesia’s promotional strategy in Japan, particularly by leveraging Bali as a gateway to introduce other destinations,” said Made.
The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging the development of tour packages that combine Bali with other destinations, such as Labuan Bajo, Yogyakarta, Manado, Lake Toba, and Lombok. [traveltext.id]
