BANK Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti is advocating for stronger copyright protection for the weaving motifs and creations of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to safeguard weavers while boosting the economic value of local products.
Citing a press statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday (10/4), 2026, Destry emphasized the importance of intellectual property protection. She noted that local creations—such as woven fabrics—should not merely serve as cultural assets but also generate greater economic benefits for the producing communities and reach wider markets.
Destry made these remarks during the Flobamorata Creative Expo (FCE) 2026 in Kupang, NTT, on Saturday (10/03), 2026—an exhibition showcasing woven textiles, culinary products, and coffee.
She stated that developing superior regional products is a crucial element in building NTT’s economy.
Consequently, she believes the diversity of local products—ranging from weaving to coffee and culinary items—holds economic potential that should be optimally developed.
Meanwhile, Reghi Perdana, Acting Deputy for Micro Enterprises at the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), stated that increasing the production capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) must go hand-in-hand with the ability to understand consumer needs, meet quality standards, and build sustainable relationships with buyers and business partners.
“We want MSMEs to be capable not only of production but also of understanding market demands, creating high-quality products, and integrating into supply chains. Therefore, market access must be a key component of MSME development,” he said.
According to Reghi, access to buyers, financing, export markets, and supply chains is essential to ensure that improvements in product quality translate into actual transactions and business growth.
He noted that strengthening MSMEs requires more than just enhancing production capabilities; it also necessitates ensuring that the resulting products have a clear path to market and effectively meet consumer needs.
Through collaboration among the central government, local governments, Bank Indonesia, the banking sector, the business community, and various stakeholders, the Ministry of MSMEs hopes that an increasing number of MSME products from NTT will meet consumer standards and needs, enter broader supply chains, and possess competitiveness in both national and global markets.
