JOKOWI: LABUAN BAJO SUPER PREMIUM DESTINATIONS NEED TO BE ADDRESSED

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo led a limited meeting to prepare Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara recently to become a super premium tourist destination.

The limited meeting on the topic “Development of the Labuan Bajo Tourism Destination” which took place on the coast of the Flores Sea was attended by a number of ministers such as Minister of Tourism Wishnutama, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, and NTT Governor Viktor Laiskodat, and the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Doni Monardo, Head of Basarnas Marsdya Bagus Puruhito and other relevant officials.

According to President Jokowi, the development of the Labuan Bajo super premium destination will begin to be addressed at the beginning of this year and there are a number of things I want to emphasize here relating to Labuan Bajo. Regarding the regional arrangement, the government wants the tourist market segment that is present to be issued more than most tourists.

“Therefore we really need to do a good integration related to the neatness, cleanliness, comfort and safety for tourists. I judge that there are still need to add a number of new hotels in Labuan Bajo. We also know that there are a number of star hotels here with some existing facilities. but we see that additional hotels are still needed for Labuan Bajo,” President said.

President mentioned that there are 5 zones that must be arranged. The five zones are Bukit Pramuka, Bukit Air, the container port and then at the passenger pier, the Marina area and the Kampung Ujung zone.

President Jokowi stressed that the five zones can become an uninterrupted public space. Thus presenting a beautiful ‘landscaping’ which became a driving force for the development of a community center in Labuan Bajo.

The President also ordered the addition of infrastructure at the Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo. Regarding infrastructure, Jokowi hopes that early this year the development of the runway and terminal at Komodo Airport will begin soon.

“Because everything is ready and we hope that this airport will get more traffic, more traffic because the managers have the ability, have a good network in bringing tourists to Labuan Bajo,” President Jokowi added.

Other orders are related to the preparation of local Human Resources and local arts so that more alive; resolution of land disputes, registration of large vessels, cleaning up rubbish at sea and land, making international events to encourage promotion and security certainty for tourists.
