RI TRAVEL INDUSTRY TURNING TO DATA FOR DOMESTIC AIR TRAFFIC RECOVERY

INDONESIA’S (RI) domestic air travel market is recovering from the COVID-19 crisis, with the number of daily internal flights reaching more than 50% of pre-pandemic levels in early December.

According to Rahul Oberai, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific of Cirium on his official press release said the latest data from the global aviation and air travel data and analytics company, Cirium said that finding is in line with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) recent projection that Indonesia’s air passenger market will grow from being the world’s 10th to become the fourth largest by 2039.

“One of the country’s biggest online travel agencies (OTAs), tiket.com, is preparing to take advantage of the ongoing recovery and leverage longer term opportunities by partnering with Cirium and subscribing to data derived from The Cirium Core,” Rahul Oberai said.

He explainded that although there will be growth opportunities, the impact of COVID-19 means a different travel landscape is likely to emerge. In this new-normal, data and analytics will be critical to enabling travel service providers to assess the variables they can control, plan future operations and outflank aggressive competitors.

“Cirium will share its views on how data-driven insight can help the industry manage uncertainties and improve business outcomes on February 9 at the PATA Beyond: Travel Recovery Solutions conference and exhibition,” Rahul Oberai noted.

Meanwhile Prasetya Setiawan, Vice President of Engineering at tiket.com, said online travel agent (OTA) intends to use Cirium’s forward looking Schedules Data and Flight Status Alerts as part of a program to improve services and enhance the overall customer experience.

“tiket.com pioneered the OTA concept in Indonesia. As one of the country’s largest players, we aim to support the revival of the tourism industry by enhancing our existing products and creating new solutions based on comprehensive and accurate data derived from The Cirium Core,” said Setiawan.

With 17 million users, 500,000 hotels, 80 airlines and 150 car rental partners, tiket.com was named the world’s fastest growing OTA in 2019. tiket.com is now using Cirium data to develop business planning solutions to help improve decision-making, enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

“Cirium offers accurate data that delivers a single version of the truth for scheduled connections. This has enabled us to enhance operational efficiency by reducing the number of man-hours required for building connections. It has also helped us make considerable savings by cutting the time and effort required to extract schedules from the Global Distribution System,” he added.

But, much more importantly Setiawan continued, access to Cirium’s accurate status data will enable us to take the entire customer experience to a new level by providing travellers with relevant and timely notifications.

Oberai concluded that echoed Setiawan’s view, noting that agility will be key to adapting to evolving market conditions. Data-driven decision-making will be more important than ever in the post-recovery period. OTAs like tiket.com, which have made significant efforts to ensure that relevant data flows fluently across the enterprise, will be able to make more informed decisions about how to adapt.
