SUPPORTING ARTS & CREATIVE ECONOMY, AP I BUILDS ART CORNER AT YIA, KULON PROGO

PT ANGKASA Pura I (AP I) Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Branch Office, Kulon Progo is building an art corner called YIA Art Corner, where art and culture of Yogyakarta are displayed in this area as a form of preserving the culture of the archipelago and to provide entertainment services for airport service users, especially airplane passengers.

According to the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, Angkasa Pura Airports highly appreciates the development of regional culture as one of the assets in the creative economy sector which can also support sustainable business.

“The establishment of the YIA Art Corner at the Yogyakarta Kulon Progo International Airport is part of an effort to contribute to the development of arts in the regional creative economy sector, specifically the Yogyakarta area,” he said.

He explained that later at YIA Art Corner, it will become a showcase for regional arts and culture by displaying various types of performances and cultural arts attractions, including dance, music, and body art. In addition, at YIA Art Corner, there is also a place for learning local arts.

“At YIA Art Corner, the Malioboro Monument area was also built, where this area is a duplicate of the icon of the City of Yogyakarta, namely the Malioboro and Tugu areas. In the Malioboro Monument area YIA will build an atmosphere resembling the atmosphere of the Malioboro Monument by building a duplicate of the Yogyakarta Monument, a busker’s music corner, souvenir stands, lesehan stands, ready-to-eat snacks, face painting corners, dry specialty food stands, shuttle rickshaws, shuttle bicycle rides, shuttle wheelbarrows, and others,” said Faik.

He added, there are a total of 20 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) stands in the area of ​​the Malioboro Monument YIA covering an area of ​​889.2 square meters. The location points for YIA Art Corner and YIA Malioboro Monument are located in the connecting building on the mezzanine floor that connects the passenger terminal with the vehicle parking building.

The YIA Art Corner and the Malioboro Monument area at YIA, which are targeted to be fully available on August 1, 2021, will complement the MSMEs area of ​​the largest airport in Indonesia, the YIA Kotagede Market, which has been present since YIA was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on August 28, 2020 and has an area 1,395 square meters can accommodate up to 600 local SMEs in Yogyakarta and its surroundings.
