INDONESIAN GAME DEVELOPERS JOIN GAMESCOM & TOKYO GAME SHOW 2021

IN SUPPORTING the existence of Indonesian game industry players in the international arena, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in collaboration with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) again facilitated a number of selected game companies to participate in the international event ‘Gamescom & Tokyo Game Show 2021’.

Gamescom itself is the world’s leading trade fair and game exhibition event which will be held in August 2021. Meanwhile, the Tokyo Game Show is the leading video game exhibition in Asia, which will be held in September-October 2021. Both events will be held in a hybrid (online manner and offline). Indonesia itself will participate online. Especially for the Gamescom event, Indonesia will cooperate with the Berlin Trade Attaché and the ITPC Hamburg.

After conducting a two-stage curation process, the Ministry of Tourism and AGI appointed a number of game developers to represent Indonesia at the event, consisting of 30 delegates for Gamescom 2021 and 19 delegates for Tokyo Game Show 2021.

“The selected participants are quite diverse and all have good quality. They have the advantage of a valuation component and have a selling point. Furthermore, we will equip them to be able to perform optimally at Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show 2021,” said Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Nia Niscaya, in a statement, in Jakarta, Friday (7/30).

All delegates under the auspices of the Archipelageek Goes to Gamescom & Tokyo Game Show 2021 program will not only have the opportunity to represent Indonesia and showcase their products in the Indonesian pavilion virtual booth, but also have the opportunity to establish business transactions with foreign buyers.

“We hope that through this event the participants can show the quality of Indonesian games in the eyes of the global community,” hopes Nia.

Indonesia’s participation in this prestigious event is also based on the positive contribution of the games sub-sector to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020. According to data from the Tourism and Creative Economy Outlook 2020/2021, the application and game developer sub-sector contributed IDR24.88 trillion. to the country’s GDP. This shows that the Indonesian game sub-sector has great potential to enter the global market.

Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Toge Productions, who also acts as the expertise representative of the curator team, Jonathan M. Gunawan, said that participants should be able to take advantage of this opportunity as well as possible, to showcase the potential of each delegation.

“By participating in global events such as Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show, participants can be more exposed to a global market that is much larger than just the local Indonesian market,” he said.

“In addition, the participants are also indirectly required to improve the quality of the products (IP) and services offered so that they can compete in the global market. In terms of industry, we can also promote local industries in the global eyes through this event, and find out how our position (the Indonesian game industry) compares to other countries,” he continued.

Indonesia itself has participated in the Gamescom & Tokyo Game Show events in previous years. In 2020, Indonesia participated in the Gamescom event, bringing 16 participants. In addition, Indonesia also participated in the 2018 Tokyo Game Show event, bringing 7 participants. [traveltext.id]
