THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM IS PREPARING TO OPEN BALI FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS

THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is preparing for the opening of Bali, related to the opening of the border or international border, at this time Bali is again preparing standard operational procedures.

According to the Minister of Tourism & Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno at the Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (9/20) afternoon, said of course, we evaluate every week and this October is a target that is submitted, and we make sure countries that are possible to visit Indonesia have been identified. We prepare this opening according to the precautionary principle.

Sandiaga stressed to tourism and creative economy players and tourists to maintain very strict health protocols, so that the latest variant of COVID-19 does not cause a third wave.

Furthermore, Minister Sandiaga complemented the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan regarding the reopening of Bali to foreign tourists. Previously, Minister Luhut said that he did not want backpacker-style tourists to come to Bali.

Sandiaga explained that the screening of foreign tourists entering Bali was not based on the attributes used by foreign tourists, such as backpacks. However, it focuses more on the quality of foreign tourists both in terms of attitude and economic ability.

“The backpackers meant by Minister Luhut are those that do not bring dividends. It is very ambiguous in terms of definition. After we clarified, Minister Luhut said this is a group of tourists who do not make profit, do not bring profit, do not bring benefits, do not comply with health protocols, do not respecting local wisdom and these types of tourists are not the target of post-pandemic tourist targets,” Sandiaga explained.

Sandiaga emphasized that he did not prohibit foreign tourists who came using backpacks. Tourists may vacation in Bali as long as they comply with the regulations in force in Bali.
