ELVIS PRESLEY’S ICONIC WHITE JUMPSUIT AND CAPE SELLS FOR IDR14 BILLION IN AUCTION

KRUSE GWS Auctions, the celebrity memorabilia auction house, has sold the iconic white jumpsuit and cape worn by Elvis Presley for US$1,012,500 or approximately IDR14 billion

“We are thrilled to have hosted an exciting auction this weekend where fans and collectors from around the world bid on extraordinary memorabilia from the life and career of Elvis Presley,” said ‘Kruse GWS Auctions’ auctioneer Brigitte Kruse recently.

“The extraordinary sale of her iconic ‘Madison Square Garden 1972’ jumpsuit and eyelet not only represents a world record price, but is a living testament to the legendary respect and love that people still feel for her,” she added.

The jumpsuit designed by Bill Belew became one of the most photographed costumes and became an Elvis icon. The gold and red embellished jumpsuit and cape had been in private collection for more than 30 years before being auctioned off.

The jumpsuit is the most important part in Elvis Presley’s career in the music world. The legendary singer wore it to a concert at Madison Square Garden in 1972.

The show also spawned the live album “Elvis: As Recorded at Madison Square Garden” which peaked at number 11 in the top 200 of the US Billboard pop albums charts and was certified “triple platinum” in 1999 for selling over three million units.

Other hit Elvis memorabilia also went up for auction recently, including his hair for US$72,500, a racing helmet from “Viva Las Vegas” for US$23,750, a tuxedo tailcoat from “Frankie & Johnny” for US$75,000, until the Schick electric razor sells for US$3,000. [antaranews/photo special]
