THE ASSOCIATION of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) hopes that the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) exhibition can be a sign of Indonesia’s economic revival after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Surely this exhibition is a very important event for Indonesia and a sign as an economic revival after the COVID-19 pandemic,” said General Chairperson of Gaikindo, Yohannes Nangoi in Jakarta, Thursday.
Nangoi is optimistic that the presence of GIIAS 2021 will be a driving factor to achieve the goals of the Indonesian automotive industry, both in maximizing domestic achievements and the country’s highest foreign exchange earner through exports.
He said the government’s support for the country’s automotive industry, one of which was through the Sales Tax on Government-Borrowed Luxury Goods (PPnBM DPT) incentive program, had succeeded in revitalizing the industry, which had slumped last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We had a slump in April-May last year, only selling 5,000 units per month. In 2021 after the extraordinary pandemic in June and July, in August-September our sales have returned to 85,000 units. This is extraordinary,” he said.
Nangoi hopes that the presence of GIIAS this year will further encourage the improvement of the Indonesian automotive industry.
On that occasion, Nangoi also said that GIIAS 2021 will continue to consistently present the latest technological innovations from the automotive world. To ensure this, Gaikindo has received support from its members who are participants.
“The various products and technologies on display are proof of the achievements of the Indonesian automotive industry which should be proud of,” said Nangoi.
GIIAS 2021 will be held on November 11-21 at ICE, BSD City, Tangerang. The exhibition can be attended by visitors directly with strict health protocols.
