THE INDONESIAN government is collaborating with Singapore to prepare anticipatory steps for the importation of COVID-19 cases through the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) program for overseas travelers.
“Currently, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is collaborating with other ministries or institutions as well as the Singaporean government in discussing the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL),” said the Head of the Expert Team for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, when delivering a press statement on BNPB’s YouTube channel. followed from Jakarta, Thursday afternoon (11/4).
VTL is a protection program for foreign travelers who already have proof of a complete dose of vaccination. Prospective tourists must be residents of countries that have VTL cooperation.
Wiku said that it was possible for VTL cooperation to be built with other countries by taking into account various things, such as case conditions and socio-economic aspects between countries.
The cooperation carried out by the government such as a mutual recognition agreement related to the recognition of vaccine certificates as well as other forms of cooperation such as the travel corridor arrangement and VTL, said Wiku, is an effort to restore community activities while still relying on agreements on clear and transparent health protocol standards so that space for case importation can be anticipated well.
He said the island of Bali would be the location for the International Badminton Tournament. To that end, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force in collaboration with the All-Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is preparing a health protocol during the tournament.
“Later on, the bubble system will be re-applied with the mechanism that participants will only carry out activities at points that have been determined by the committee, such as hotels, training venues and competition venues. The bubble system was chosen to avoid the risk of contagion occurring. In addition, in this system, all parties who are active in it have gone through proper health screening,” Wiku stated.
He added that all participants from abroad will enter through the arrival gate in Jakarta or Soekarno-Hatta Airport and continue with domestic trips to Bali in accordance with applicable policies. [antaranews/photo special]
