A VISIT to Wae Rebo Village, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which is included in the top 50 best tourist villages in the Indonesia Tourism Village Event (ADWI) 2021. This is the last visitation of 50 tourist villages that have been visited since August 2021.

Wae Rebo Tourism Village is located in the remote mountains of Satar Lenda Village, West Satar Mese District, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. This tourist village has unique potential. Located above an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, Wae Rebo Tourism Village is often called heaven above the clouds. In addition, this village also has 7 traditional houses that are icons of Wae Rebo, namely Mbaru Niang, which are cone-shaped.
Their customs and culture have mingled with the habits of the people of Flores Island. However, the architecture of the building still has Minang elements. Minang influences can be found in the architecture of Niang Dangka, the roof of this Mbaru Niang.
The expanse of green grass surrounded by mountains complete with fog also becomes the charm of the village. So that it gives a magical impression, but is peaceful, calm, and prosperous.
There is also a spring that comes from the mountains which is used by the villagers for bathing, washing, and for daily drinking. This spring is called Sosor, of which there are two types, namely Male and Female Sosor.
The culture in Wae Rebo is still strong. Namely, there is a traditional ceremony called the Penti Ceremony Rite. This ceremony is a form of community gratitude to God and ancestral spirits for all forms of hope received during the one year that has passed.
Wae Rebo tourist village also has a variety of arts such as rangku pestle. This game and dance is performed by four people holding four bamboo sticks, using sticks to form a cross and moving them. While other people have to jump over the gap so as not to be pinched by the bamboo.
There is also the Caci Dance, which is a form of reflection on the culture and life of the Wae Rebo residents. As for handicraft products, Wae Rebo Tourism Village has woven fabric crafts. The specialty of this woven fabric is the Manggarai pattern which resembles a flower and has a brighter color. While in the culinary sector, there is coffee and forest honey.
With these various potentials, Wae Rebo Tourism Village has succeeded in becoming one of the three representatives of Indonesia in the 2021 UNWTO Best Tourism Village event. It is hoped that this achievement can make the existence of Wae Rebo Tourism Village even better in the future.
