BECOMING A BUFFER FOR BOROBUDUR, TEMANGGUNG’S EFFORTS TO BOOST TOURISM

BEING a buffer zone for the super priority destination of Borobudur is a blessing as well as a challenge for Temanggung Regency, Central Java in developing all its tourism potential.

According to Muhammad Al Khadziq, the Regent of Temanggung said, as a buffer zone for the Borobudur Authority Agency (BOB), Temanggung has strong natural and cultural tourism potential. Temanggung has 3 mountains, Sumbing, Sindoro and Prau, then has 1,791 art groups.

“Temanggung has an agreement with BOB where tourists who come to Borobudur can be directed to Temanggung as well. We have tourist destinations that are strategically located and have good infrastructure,” said Khadziq at the Regency Hall recently.

Temanggung too, became the door for climbing for Mount Sindoro and Sumbing. Then in the middle area between the two mountains, there is the Sibajak area where there is the Jumprit tourist destination—a spring that is always taken for the Vesak day.

“In relation to the BOB agreement, Temanggung will direct tourists to Kledung and Jumprit, which have good access and infrastructure. Then from the Jumprit tourist area, there is the Liangan destination, which is now in the excavation process from the National Cultural Conservation Agency,” he added.

Meanwhile, Saltiyono Atmaji, Head of the Culture and Tourism Office of Temanggung Regency, while accompanying the One Day Tour #NjoNangTemanggung group in Posong, explained that the central part of Temanggung is being predicted as a buffer for Borobudur and is being prepared for a heritage tourism area.

“Meanwhile, Liangan is being prepared as a cultural and spiritual tourism area. This is because Liangan contains historical relics in the form of temples that cannot be found in Indonesia and even Asia,” said Saltiyono.

To the participants of the One Day Tour #NjoNangTemanggung, the Head of the Culture and Tourism Office assured that currently Temanggung Regency based on the assessment results from the central government’s COVID-19 Task Force is at level 1. This means that Temanggung has been able to accept tourist visits with adaptation of health protocols.

It should be noted, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Temanggung Regency received an average of 200 thousand tourists from both domestic and foreign countries every year. However, since the pandemic, the number of visits has dropped drastically.

Temanggung Needs Hospitality Investors
Strong support in the form of abundant tourism potential is still lacking. The reason is that Temanggung has not been strengthened in terms of accommodation such as star caste hotels from both local and international chains.

“Temanggung needs investors from the hotel industry who are capable of being a trigger to complement tourism. We need hotel investors who are conceptually, aesthetically, recreationally strong and become a cozy hangout place for tourists,” Khadziq noted.

He explained that for investors, the Temanggung district government provides easy licensing and land for hotel construction sites. In general, there are no specific barriers to inviting investors. Regarding the block or location, in the upper area there is already a tourism area. Infrastructure is also good.

“The Temanggung district government is aware that developing tourism as a leading sector is not easy. However, Temanggung has a strong and large capital. Apart from nature, art and culture are enough to invite tourists and investors to come to this tobacco-producing country,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
