A GROUP of media crew members who are members of the Jakarta Travel Media Grouping (HAM), on Monday (1/24) apart from introducing the HAM media association, as they also watched a coffee roasting demo at a Cotta Cafe in Jatiwaringin.
According to Arief Suharto, Chairman of the HAM said I want to ensure that hotel and tourism industry players have implemented adaptations of new habits, namely health protocols. By looking at the conditions on the ground, several media crews want to reconstruct the hospitality and tourism industry in their readiness to welcome guests and tourists who visit anywhere in Indonesia.
One of the proud products and easily found in all destinations is coffee. Arief appreciated the government’s efforts, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in promoting and promoting Nusantara coffee abroad.
“We also invite Bagas Hapsoro, former Indonesian Ambassador to Sweden and Latvia (2016-2020) who is currently assisting the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Coffee Diplomacy. This Fun Roasting event is in the form of a coffee roasting presentation including a demo. The coffee processing demonstration was led by Teuku Andi Nova Reza or fondly called Andi, an Arabica Q Grader barista,” said Arief.
Starting his presentation, Andi explained about the various types of world coffee that are currently the top hits, namely Arabica, Robusta, and Liberika. All of them have their own characteristics.
Andi, who is also the owner of Sakha Coffee Roastery, explained in detail about the main phases in the roasting process (recovery and development). Furthermore, it is also described about the color change of coffee beans based on grinding time.
All participants including myself were asked to practice the milling process earlier. The tools used for grinding are made in Surabaya and the price is relatively affordable for MSMEs. The event closed with a relaxed discussion with coffee roasting participants, namely members of the Media Children Association who also participated in grinding.
However, when asked why the price of a cup of espresso, Americano, cappuccino, milk coffee at each coffee shop has different prices and tastes. Especially the price. Andi replied that the price and taste depend on several factors. Call it roasting and green beans used by every shop.
“For roasting, it still depends on how skillful a roaster is in treating the green beans they are processing. Both of these things will affect the taste of coffee that will be tasted by each customer,” he said.
Then in terms of price, he continued, it is not always good green beans and quality roasters that produce high prices when they come out of the coffee roasting machine.
“Sakha Coffee, our company is one of the coffee roasting services that is able to formulate how every consumer can taste a cup of delicious coffee at an affordable price,” explained Andi. “Our coffee is also well-liked in Singapore and there are many fans there,” said Andi.
It was mentioned that when there was a coffee exhibition in 2019 in Singapore, Sakha Kopi also participated. What Andi remembers is that the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore at that time, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya, also participated in the opening of the company.
Sakha Coffee, which until now has been a supplier of powdered coffee in sachets for AirAsia airlines again explained that Sakha Coffee in the future will target to be able to roast 1-ton in a month.
“This target includes 130 kg per month or the equivalent of 10 thousand sachets that we supply to AirAsia,” hoped Andi. As is known, AirAsia has resumed operations since October 1, 2021.
Over the last 3 days I have observed an increase in cafe openings and education or short courses on Barista. Previously last Sunday, following the grand opening of Cafe and Eatery G-8 at Pondok Aren.
In short, despite the pandemic, coffee activities including informal barista courses have increased sharply. Even coffee roasting skills education for office employees and some are devoted to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). [traveltext.id]
