THROUGH the Indonesian (RI) Embassy to Bulgaria, they will build a rendang factory for a country whose capital city is Sofia. Not alone, the Indonesian Embassy will cooperate with Bella Ltd.
According to Iwan Bogananta, Indonesian Ambassador to Bulgaria said in a release that the factory will be built within a radius of more than 60 kilometers from the capital city of Sofia. Later this factory will be built in the western city of Bulgaria, Botevgrad.
“The factory was built on an area of 20,000 square meters, and five thousand square meters was prepared for the flow of Indonesian Rendang production. The newly built factory is specialized in producing various kinds of meat products. So, there is a 5,000-square-meter area specifically for Randang, from processing to packaging,” he said.
This rendang product will also be equipped with a halal certificate by the Bulgarian government. Iwan said that Bulgaria would later become a hub for rendang trade throughout Europe, even the Middle East.
This typical food from Padang, West Sumatra, deserves to be the best food in the world because the cooking process is so long that it produces soft rendang meat and spices that seep into the meat.
Not only that, rendang is also known as a durable food that can last for weeks. Quoting from kemlu.go.id, rendang is also suitable to be eaten in winter because it tastes better.
According to the beliefs of the Minangkabau people, rendang has three philosophies. The first is patience because the manufacturing process is quite long. Second is persistence. This is necessary when stirring the ingredients into one dish.
The last one is wisdom. Wisdom is required in choosing ingredients for dishes. Meat, chilies, and other components require individual discretion to achieve the desired taste.
Rendang has become very popular in Indonesia and even abroad, not only Bulgaria, but also Malaysia. This is because the culture of the Minangkabau people is called wandering or wandering. According to Yoshino in Malaysian Cuisine: A Case of Neglected Culinary Globalization, in the 1900s, it was immigrants from Indonesia, especially Minang people, who traveled long distances to Malaysia and introduced rendang there.
