INDONESIA’S TOURISM PERFORMANCE INDEX RANKS IN THE WORLD’S TOP 32

THE INDONESIAN Tourism sector made a proud achievement where the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) which was just officially released by the World Economic Forum (WEC) on May 24, 2022 showed that Indonesia shot up 12 places, from 44th position. ranked in the top 32 in the world.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, in the Weekly Press Briefing, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (5/30) said that despite being hit by various obstacles, Indonesia was able to achieve the largest increase in ranking, up to 3.4%. while Saudi Arabia achieved the second largest ranking increase, as its score rose 2.3% on the TTCI.

“Indonesia is ranked 32nd, up 12 positions from 117 countries around the world. And we achieved this 12-level increase in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that we went through and so many obstacles, but it turns out that there are several points that we managed to fix and improve. And if we look at the Asia Pacific region, the country’s tourism sector has also managed to enter the top 10, ranking eighth,” said Sandiaga.

Sandiaga added that in ASEAN, Indonesia is in a very prestigious position because we have succeeded in surpassing the achievements of our neighboring countries. The data shows that Indonesian tourism has managed to climb up or managed to rise by using an effective and efficient budget.

He continued that Proving that the programs and policies rolled out by the Tourism Ministry are right on target, useful and timely, because they have a direct impact on the tourism sector and the creative economy, so that they are able to create jobs and encourage economic recovery.

“I just reported this to President Joko Widodo and he asked us to all out voice this achievement that in the midst of the pandemic storm, in the midst of the difficulties we are facing, in the midst of the budget that continues to be reduced, but we were able to increase our index to 12 ranks and steadily and significantly in the upper ranks of the tourism sector,” he said.

Minister Sandiaga is committed to continuing to improve the performance of the tourism sector and the creative economy. He immediately moved quickly to study again or evaluate the indicators that triggered the economic revival in the tourism sector.

“Not only that, I will also strengthen collaboration with ministries/agencies related to data updating. So that what Indonesia’s tourism has achieved is accurate with the situation on the ground,” he said.

He explained, and we are now reviewing the indicators that are in 2022, how we can improve again in the years to come. Because there are 112 indicators and we will also involve other ministries/agencies related to data updating.

“Because we cannot work alone and we will also improve coordination across ministries/agencies, including embracing local governments. And we will also publish the Indonesian version of TTCI to raise enthusiasm from our friends from provinces, districts, cities to the tourist village level,” he said.

Sandiaga’s initiation in issuing the Indonesian version of TTCI is because it is one of the references for the main performance index of the Tourism Ministry, which is monitored by tourism and creative stakeholders. [traveltext.id]
