THE DECLINING number of COVID-19 cases raises optimism that the economy will move again. Including the tourism sector, which must be suspended during the pandemic.
As the host of the G-20, Indonesia must be able to take advantage of the economic revival to support the tourism sector. One of the agendas of the G20 Presidency is to discuss prospects and policies for tourism development, including investment.
The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) hopes that Indonesia as the host will take advantage of the G20 momentum to encourage overall tourism programs, including the creative economy involving Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“Guests who will attend, both investors and anyone who is present in a country will talk directly and see Indonesia as a tourism destination,” said Secretary General of PH, I Maulana Yusran recently.
In addition, there will be talks regarding investment prospects in tourism development. A number of regions will show off, show off their tourist destinations in order to attract investors.
Meanwhile, the Economist of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), Nailul Huda believes that the right tourism policy will restore the declining tourism demand globally. Almost all countries have experienced a decline in tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic. So many countries, one of them Turkey, are freeing visas to several countries including Indonesia.
“Everything is to boost the tourism sector. Now, the key to improving tourism is in handling the pandemic. Even though there is money, but the pandemic is rising, logically they will not travel,” he explained.
He urged that the discussion of the meeting be related to handling the pandemic, especially in tourism areas. Not only giving certificates but how to reduce the pandemic so that people are not afraid to travel.
Then the discussion of tourism schemes. Such as travel bubbles or schemes to create tourism gateways between countries during the pandemic. Under the travel bubble, tourists will not be quarantined and can enjoy special visa and accommodation arrangements. Of course, by prioritizing a sense of security for the community to want to go on a trip.
Previously, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy was preparing for the recovery of the tourism sector after the pandemic. One of them is certification for tourism and creative economy entrepreneurs in Indonesia. There are around 12,000 certified business players.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also promotes the development of a blue and green economy in the tourism sector by developing ecotourism, the use of environmentally friendly transportation, waste management programs in tourist destinations and others.
However, there are still some issues related to the limited availability of connectivity and the increase in prices. With this challenge, Indonesia is committed to continuously making improvements in the tourism sector and the creative economy. Especially related to the preparation of the G20 Presidency.
“Indonesia is committed to restoring tourism by organizing international events, including a series of side events to support Indonesia’s G20 Presidency in cooperation with UNWTO for the tourism agenda,” he concluded. [kontan.co.id/photo special]
