JAPAN ENTRY REQUIREMENTS, VISA FREE AND NO PCR TEST AS OF OCTOBER 11, 2022

A NUMBER of entry requirements to Japan for overseas travelers will be relaxed, including the question of tests and types of COVID-19 vaccines as of Tuesday (10/11).

Starting October 11, 2022 at 00.00 (Japan time), overseas travelers entering Japan does not need to prepare a negative COVID-19 certificate within 72 hours before departure, if they show a vaccination certificate (three doses) with the type of vaccine listed in the Emergency Use List WHO Vaccine.

The types of vaccines that have been approved by the Japanese Government starting October 11, 2022, include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Bharat Biotech, Covovax, Covishield, Novavax, Sinopharm, Sinovac, and Convidecia vaccines.

“For intramuscular injections of Janssen vaccine, only in the case of the primary series, one dose is considered equivalent to two doses. The dose will also be considered valid even though each dose is not the same vaccine,” reads the provisions of the Quarantine Station, Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan.

However, for overseas travelers who have not received the third dose of vaccine with the type of vaccine in the WHO Vaccine Emergency Use List, they are still required to submit a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before departure.

Reporting from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, last Friday (9/30), although it had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Japanese Government will now allow visa-free travel again starting October 11, 2022.

This means that passport holders from one of the 68 countries and regions designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, including Indonesia, will no longer need to apply for a tourist visa starting October 11. [sources/photo special]
