THE POTENTIAL for sea transportation, such as yachts and cruise ships, is re-opening as the tourism sector begins to recover after the pandemic.
According to the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi said I support the efforts made by shipping business actors through the development of the ship and cruise ship business.
“My message is that the ecosystem of yachts and cruise ships must be studied in depth with the opportunities and challenges with shipping business actors, to find out which approach can be developed the fastest,” he said in an official statement, Saturday (10/8).
The Minister of Transportation believes that the recovery of the tourism sector after the pandemic is a good moment to introduce marine transportation such as yachts and cruise ships, which can help support the progress of marine tourism in Indonesia.
From the government side, the Minister of Transportation stated that he would support by providing ease of regulation for investment. Regarding regulatory support, the Ministry of Transportation has issued PM No. 4/2022 concerning Foreign Tourism Ships (Yachts) and Foreign Cruise Ships in Indonesian Waters.
By opening as many as 28 ports of embarkation and debarkation of foreign cruise ships (yachts) and as many as 10 ports of embarkation and debarkation of foreign cruise ships (cruise ships).
Budi Karya also appreciated the initiative of the Indonesian National Shipowners Association (INSA) which also made efforts to develop marine tourism in Indonesia. Moreover, the government is currently developing a number of tourist destinations in several areas that have the potential to develop marine tourism, including Lake Toba, Likupang, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Bali, and others.
The INSA Yacht Festival (IYF) 2022 is the result of a collaboration between the INSA DPP and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), which is part of the B20 side event which will culminate in November. This activity is an event to promote the marine tourism industry in Indonesia and introduce yachts that can be used by tourists to enjoy the beauty of the sea in a number of marine tourism destinations in Indonesia.
