CURRENTLY health and hygiene are the main aspects that tourists consider when deciding to come or buy a tour package.
According to the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, in the past, price was the first aspect for some tourists to decide whether to come or buy a package, but with the COVID-19 pandemic that we are experiencing, this aspect has shifted,” she said in a webinar titled “New Paradigm of Indonesia Tourism Industry Trend 2023”, Tuesday (12/13).
Giri, in the event which was filled with the launch of Tourism Industry Trend Research Data by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Data Center and Information System in collaboration with tiket.com, also said that outdoor activities and sustainability are also aspects that determine tourists’ decisions.
She then mentioned, research shows that tourists are willing to pay more if the destination they are going to cares about environmental sustainability issues, environmental conservation. According to the study, they even want to participate in environmental issues.
“Therefore, the government’s program regarding CHSE, namely certification related to cleanliness, health, safety and environmental sustainability, is very much in line with existing needs or trends,” Giri remarked.
According to her, tourists are now paying more attention to health problems and making more use of digitalization, including services with a minimum of direct contact or touchless services and the use of gadgets.
“Touchless services, health and safety issues are the main thing, then the issue of sustainability is also a concern for everyone, not only those who prepare the attractions, but also the travelers,” Giri noted.
Therefore, she predicts that later the main driving force for someone’s decision to travel will be quality factors related to full awareness or mindfulness, culture, and quality travel accommodation arrangements.
Furthermore, Giri said that as the COVID-19 pandemic was getting handled, domestic tourists continued to increase. In 2021, around 603 million trips were recorded, with the most movement of tourists on the island of Java, including Jakarta and Banten.
“Based on gender, men dominate, the highest age group is 25-34 years. The purpose of the trip is to visit friends or family, then vacation and recreation. Later there will be an increase in demand related to health tourism. People want healing, to correct feelings. Refreshing is not make the bag dry let alone a headache,” she concluded.
