THE COORDINATING Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan emphasized that the development of the five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) will be completed in the third quarter of 2024. This is expected to have a positive effect on Indonesia’s economic growth in the future.
The five DPSPs whose development is being accelerated are Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, and Likupang in North Sulawesi.
“We want all five DPSPs to be completed in the third quarter of 2024. So, we are now evaluating all of them. Earlier, from the results of our discussion there were the Minister of Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the Minister of Tourism, and the Minister of Ministry of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB), we will complete it,” he said, in a press conference after attended the 5th DPSP Coordination Meeting, Wednesday, (12/21).
According to him, completing the development of the five DPSPs still requires an additional budget of IDR15 trillion. The budget will be divided over the next two years. “I think with the finances there shouldn’t be any problems,” he said.
Luhut emphasized that the main focus is to encourage tourism in the country, including encouraging the movement of domestic tourists (wisnus). He admitted that he did not want the middle class to spend their money on vacations abroad.
“We shouldn’t rely on foreign tourism because our middle class is rising now, so if we can immediately return more domestic tourism than before COVID-19, I think that’s a big achievement. The additional budget of IDR15 trillion was expected to help complete all the construction of the five DPSPs,” Luhut said.
He concluded that the additional budget required is IDR15 trillion. We hope this can be completed in two years to complete all the activities that we have carried out in the five DPSPs. [sources/photo special]
