THE COVID-19 pandemic had stopped the airport, the pride of Jember residents, for about two years. This year, air transportation is starting to revive. After previously the Jember-Surabaya route was opened, the pilot flight for the Jember-Sumenep route was also opened, Tuesday (01/10) 2023.
Transportation it gives a significant advantage. Because, getting to Madura Island can be faster and cheaper.
Widi Arsianti, a passenger on the pioneer flight, said that he had traveled by land from Jember to Sumenep and took more than 8 hours. With the pioneering flight, he was able to cut the travel time to just one hour to get to Salt Island. “Besides the short time, the price is not much different from using land transportation such as buses,” he said.
Widi hopes that the Jember–Sumenep route and vice versa can last a long time, if necessary forever. This is because previous flights only lasted a few months. “Hopefully the Jember-Sumenep flights will continue,” he hoped.
Flights are arguably cheaper than land or sea routes. Because, passengers do not spend much money during the trip. Several other passengers said that Notohadinegoro Airport needed to be balanced with improved facilities. Such as ATM facilities, canteens, and other facilities that can provide comfort for passengers. [sources/photo special]
