THE STATE-Owned Enterprises Ministry said that in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Denpasar, Bali traditional Balinese medicine will be developed using herbal plants to protect ancestral heritage.
According to State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir in Denpasar, Monday (01/16), 2023 said that in Sanur SEZ we will try traditional Balinese medicinal manuscripts that use Balinese herbs in collaboration with National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Balinese health figures.
“We don’t want to build a project in Bali without considering culture and spirituality, so after communicating with local leaders, we decided to develop a health palm-based eco-medical garden,” he said.
During his visit to see the progress of the Sanur SEZ with the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri and the Chairperson of the Indonesian Parliament, Puan Maharani, Erick said that the botanical garden was targeted to be completed at the same time as the hotel construction in August 2023.
Regarding the need for the use of traditional medicine, Erick said the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry wanted to develop medicines based on Indonesian culture such as those in China and India.
“Growth rather than health, of course, must be based on our medicines, because 90% of these drugs are still imported raw materials. Who knows, we can reduce the need for imported raw materials by up to 20%,” he remarked.
In the presence of Megawati, who also a PDIP’s Chairperson, Erick revealed that currently the ability to suppress medicinal raw materials from abroad is still at 70%.
Thus, through the construction of an international hospital in the Sanur SEZ it is hoped that new investment will emerge, so that Bali will not only open new tourism locations but develop existing areas.
Erick said that as many as 2 million Indonesians chose abroad as a place for treatment, where as much as IDR97.5 trillion was spent for it.
“Therefore, we are discussing what can be done to increase competence again compared to neighboring countries such as Thailand and others without creating a new area. So, this is why we are making a breakthrough here, with an area of 41.26 hectares,” he concluded. [antaranews]
