MINISTRY ENSURES READINESS OF KOMODO AIRPORT FOR ASEAN SUMMIT EVENT

THE DIRECTORATE General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation began preparing Komodo Airport infrastructure facilities in Labuan Bajo, to support the smooth flight of delegates and state guests at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in May 2023.

According to Director General of Air Transportation, M. Kristi Endah Murni, several operational support schemes will be carried out so that the implementation of the flights of delegates and state guests will run smoothly from arrival to return.

“We have conducted a direct review of Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara last January 20, 2023,” Kristi said through her press statement, Monday (01/23) 2023.

Currently, Komodo Airport has a runway length of 2,650 and a width of 45-meters that can serve A320 and B738 type aircraft, the apron area reaches 31,000 square meters for 7 parking stands with details of 4 narrow body aircraft and 3 propeller aircraft.

The airport also has a 13,366-square-meter passenger terminal that can accommodate up to 1,100,000 passengers per year.

“As an anticipation effort, we will prepare alternative airports closest to Komodo Airport as a parking lot for delegates’ aircraft, namely I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar, Lombok Praya Airport, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar and El Tari Airport in Kupang,” Kristi explained.

In addition to these facilities, a number of other supporting facilities are also being prepared by the Directorate General of Hubud of the Ministry of Transportation to support ASEAN Summit activities, including Custom, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) inspection facilities and helipad facilities for medical evacuation.

Furthermore, Kristi ordered the Head of the Bali Region IV Airport Authority Office to coordinate and cooperate with all relevant parties to ensure the completeness of facilities and infrastructure at Komodo Airport, in order to fully support the ASEAN Summit event.

“The success of the ASEAN Summit is certainly inseparable from the involvement of all parties. I hope we can bring the good name of Indonesia in the international eyes and introduce tourism in Labuan Bajo to be more famous as another attractive tourist destination besides Bali,” Kristi concluded.
