HOTEL BUYING & SELLING IN BADUNG IS STILL RAMPANT, PHRI MENTIONS THE REASON

THE BUYING and selling of hotels in Bali, especially Badung, still occurs frequently. Even though tourism in Bali has started to improve.

The number of hotels being sold is currently not small, even reaching dozens. This was not denied by the Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Badung Regency, IGN Rai Suryawijaya. He admitted that there are several reasons why the sale and purchase of hotels in Badung is still rampant.

“Actually, buying and selling hotels is a common thing. But because there are many of them, this is the question,” he said on Wednesday, (03/01), 2023.

He admitted that currently there are dozens of hotels for sale, it’s just that he didn’t mention what hotels they were. Nevertheless, it is recognized that there are several reasons why there is still a sale and purchase of hotels in Bali, especially Badung.

First, said Suryawijaya, the hotel that was sold had problems with operational needs that could not be achieved until now. This also makes hotel management confused in managing hotels with a minimal number of tourists.

“Because for years tourism has been dormant. Maybe there are hotels that require large costs to restore them to their original state, but the management cannot afford it, so they are sold,” he said.

In addition, the second is the possibility of diverting investment. So that the hotel that is owned is sold until now. Furthermore, the third hotel owner sometimes looks for the market nation of the hotel he owns, so he knows how much the current asset price is.

“But the last one most often happens because the shareholders are not in sync. So it was decided to sell the hotel,” he explained.

Nevertheless, Suryawijaya admitted that currently investment in the hotel sector is actually very good. Because currently tourism is improving.

“Of course, in the future it will be good, because it remains the leading sector of the Balinese economy. Besides that, it is also a very promising business,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun said the same thing. He admitted that the process of buying and selling hotels was actually a common thing before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“However, this has recently become the spotlight after the pandemic. However, I myself have coordinated this matter with PHRI. Honestly, I don’t follow how many hotel sales and purchases there are,” he said.

Nevertheless, he hopes that hotels owned by local people will not be sold. At least if conditions are urgent the hotel can be rented out.

“What we hope is that hotels owned by local people will not be sold. Because we really hope that there are Balinese shareholders not just from outside,” he concluded. [sources/photo special]
