THE MINISTRY of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) will open climbing tours of Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara starting April 1, 2023 as weather conditions have improved.
“The previously closed Mount Rinjani National Park climbing destination will reopen on April 1, 2023,” said Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park (BTNGR), MoEF, Dedy Asriady, in Mataram, Saturday (03/25).
KLHK closed the climbing of Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island from January 1 to March 31, 2023 due to extreme weather conditions that endanger life safety. The closure of the climbing route is also in the context of restoring the ecosystem in the Mount Rinjani National Park area.

In addition, the Sembalun, Timbanuh, and Tetebatu hiking trails in East Lombok Regency, and the Aik Berik hiking trail in Central Lombok Regency.
“For visitors who will carry out climbing activities, they can register or book online (online booking) through the eRinjani application starting March 27, 2023. Registration for natural tourism visits to climb Mount Rinjani can be done from 05.00 to 20.00 Wita,” he said.
In addition to climbing nature tourism, he said, his party will also reopen two non-climbing nature tourism destinations which were previously also closed due to extreme weather conditions. At the same time, one new non-hiking natural tourist destination will also be opened, namely Tiu Ngumbak Waterfall in Kayangan District, North Lombok Regency.
Dedy explained the quota for natural tourism visits to Mount Rinjani National Park was applied at 100% of the normal visit quota with a climbing duration of four days and three nights. All climbing and non-climbing natural tourism activities apply the discipline of general guidelines and follow revised standard operating procedures.
