THE CUMULATIVE increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals from January to March 2023 reached 2.25 million visits or an increase of 508.87% compared to the same period in 2022.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno after “The Weekly Press Briefing” which took place in a hybrid manner, in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/2), 2023 said this was in accordance with our projections, and we are grateful that the figure is in the upper target in accordance with the addition of the number of flights and the number of available seats that continue to increase.
Previously, Sandiaga received a new additional target for foreign tourist visits to Indonesia to 8.5 million in 2023. The target increased by 1.1 million, after in January 2023 the Ministry of Tourism was given the initial task of meeting foreign tourist arrivals of 7.4 million in 2023.
“We originally targeted 7.4 million upper limits of foreign tourists. Maybe because it looks like there is a stronger momentum so we added one million, to 8.5 million we have to continue to monitor if multiplied by four per quarter, if multiplied by 2.5 million until the end of the year it can penetrate around 9 million.
However, Sandiaga indicated a decrease in foreign tourists due to the low season. “But after the summer season there will also be a low season that must be anticipated before the peak season at the end of the year. The target was in accordance with existing projections and we are increasingly confident that in 2024 the creation of 4.4 million new jobs can be created, we are very optimistic,” he said.
Previously, BPS recorded 809,960 foreign tourists to various regions in Indonesia in March 2023, an increase of 15.39% compared to the previous month. Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in March 2023 were dominated by Malaysia with 124.62 thousand visits (15.39%); Singapore 111.26 thousand visits (13.74%); Australia 96.16 thousand (11.87%); Timor Leste 63.59 thousand (7.85%); and China 51.97 thousand (6.42%).
