WITH the theme Bali and Nusa Tenggara throughout July 2023, Galeri Indonesia Kaya is showing the beauty of the rhythm of a legendary musical instrument from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in a performance titled “Sasando Rhapsody” with Andovi Da Lopez and Nusa Tuak.
Featuring sasando as the center of show and attention, for approximately 60 minutes art connoisseurs are entertained by the beautiful melodies of the sasando musical instrument performed by Nusa Tuak with songs that reflect the traditional values of East Nusa Tenggara such as “Lalean”, “Bolelebo”, Ofa Langga and even Coldplay’s song “Paradise” and Chrisye’s “Cintaku” as well as works created by Nusa Tuak such as “Euphoria”, “Armor”, “Alone” and “Shadow”.
The Sasando Rhapsody show was also enlivened by the appearance of Andovi da Lopez, who presented the performance’s narration about the beauty and magic of sasando. This show also features a collaboration of narrative painting, which depicts stories through strokes that are in harmony with the sasando melody with Diego Luister Berel who was the first winner of a painting competition at Holy Art, London with the theme ‘Balinese Penjor’.
“Today’s afternoon is the first time I have appeared before art connoisseurs at the Galeri Indonesia Kaya. I am proud to be able to introduce East Nusa Tenggara culture in a fun way with the Nusa Tuak music group which also promotes East Nusa Tenggara culture,” said Andovi da Lopez, in his official broadcast, Sunday (7/16).
“In this performance, Nusa Tuak and I invite the audience to connect with the rich culture of East Nusa Tenggara and the beautiful melodies contained in the strains of sasando. Hopefully our performances will be well received and become useful entertainment for art connoisseurs,” he said.
Meanwhile Nusa Tuak is a music group that seeks to introduce the sasando musical instrument to the wider community consisting of Ganzer Lana, Izhu, Utha Takalapeta playing sasando, Rico Matahelumual playing Hawaiian Ambon, Utha as bassist, Pepi as drummer, Martin Koehuan as guitarist, Firdha Rachmadani as vocalist, and Dicky Dayu playing the flute. Nusa Tuak hopes that the strains of sasando can be enjoyed by the younger generation along with modern music.
