ENCOURAGING the recovery of tourist visits in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri), one of which is through holding various international scale events.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in Riau Islands, Sunday (9/17), 2023 said that after the pandemic, the number of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands had not fully recovered like in Bali or Jakarta. Today we revive tourism in Bintan with a special interest tour, namely the Bintan Golf Challenge. As we know, after the pandemic, tourism in Bintan and the Riau Islands in general has not yet recovered.
“In fact, previously, the Riau Islands were the mainstay (contributor of foreign tourists) after Bali and Jakarta. For these two provinces, it has started to grow, therefore we are encouraging this good momentum by creating national and international quality events because we see many foreign tourists coming to this event,” he stated.
Apart from that, Sandiaga also explained that one way to restore tourism is to hold special interest tourism events or sports tourism, so that markets from neighboring countries can be interested in coming.
“This golf course is usually busy on weekends, but there is some homework related to VoA and entry fees that we need to continue to try to make more affordable so that more tourists visit Bintan. Not only special interest tourism but also economic improvement for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),” he remarked.
Golf tourism becomes quality tourism because the length of stay of a tourist becomes longer because they want to play golf several times.
