ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur Jakarta is again presenting a solo art exhibition for guests of the five-star hotel in the Semanggi area. This time to add new and inspiring colors with a touch of the work of local artist, Ferdy Thaeras.
This exhibition is entitled “Cosmic Echoes” and will be held from Friday, 26 January to April 28, 2024, at ARTSPACE, ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur Jakarta, featuring 20 of the best works of art artist from graduates of the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ).
According to Djulkarnain, Hotel’s General Manager at the press conference opening exhibition, Friday (01/26) said that ArtSpace room at ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur Jakarta, we want hotel guests to be able to feel the sensation of a high-quality experience through the works of art displayed in ArtSpace. What we present is also solely to encourage creativity, innovation and new exploration in the field of art, so that Indonesian works of art can always get the best place both domestically and internationally.
“The art exhibition ‘Cosmic Echoes’ by Ferdy Thaeras is open to all art lovers and hotel guests. With the presence of this solo exhibition, we hope to provide inspiration through art,” said Djulkarnain.
Meanwhile, Ferdy Thaeras, explained when he asked about the title ‘Cosmic Echoes’, refers to faint signals or waves that travel through space and from an artist’s point of view, people often navigate their lives by predicting various things through astrology, horoscopes or even sky reading such as looking at the orbits and positions of planets.
Ferdy Thaeras is perhaps better known as a model, actor and editor in the city of Jakarta. He was also a finalist on MTV VJ Hunt in 2005. His love for the world of abstract painting is a process that he has experienced since moving from place to place, from Jakarta, Bali, to New York.
“Well, in correlation with the works that I produce here in the process of creating, I use a lot of acrylic paint which is inscribed on canvas relying on the energy that is felt when interpreting the events that I experience onto the canvas through the energy that I feel. The palette knives and hand strokes, color selection, composition and play of paint layers this time are very strong in the abstract expressionism art style,” he said.
If you look at his artwork, Ferdy Thaeras seems to be telling a story about his in-depth journey experience of his identity which begins with a play of colors dominated by white and red, blue and green pastel color with a cracked and crumbling paint texture. In accordance with the theme ‘Cosmic Echoes’, all of his paintings are interpreted as showing the dominance of cosmic energy only showing what can happen, but humans are the ones who decide what to do with it, bearing all the risks and impacts afterwards.
He remarked, however, the ‘Cosmic Echoes’ exhibition holding was different from other art exhibitions in that paint was poured on large canvases which used many pastel colors which seemed soft but ultimately exposed to the experience of life itself.
Meanwhile, Windi Solomon, ART Director of ARTOTEL Group, added that this exhibition is very special for us, the exhibition features a variety of artworks with abstract concepts. We are very pleased to be able to present another contemporary art exhibition, this time with an abstract theme. Abstract itself is not too easy to understand because in the process itself it is interpreted as a form of sensation or figurative form of an object.
“In this exhibition, many works are adopted from a man’s life-experience based on imagination or forms that have been seen, heard. The criteria used must come from the artist’s own side, even in his artwork it is often tied to non-figurative work. Apart from that, he is also known for often using minimalist colors. It’s not uncommon for him to also explore spaces that are often left full of pastel colors” she said.
She concluded that through his artwork this time, Ferdy Thaeras is not really position himself in pure abstract art, but he expresses it through the composition of colors, lines, shapes, textures that are presented as himself.
