THE MINISTRY of Environment (KLH) has sealed and stopped development activities in the Lido Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in West Java, which is managed by the MNC Group through PT MNC Land Tbk.
The Minister of Environment (LH)/Head of the Environmental Inspection Agency (BPLH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said that the Lido SEZ was sealed because KLH found a number of violations, including development activities that did not comply with environmental documents.
“PT MNC Land Lido was found to have failed to properly manage storm water runoff. As a result, sediment from the land clearing area was carried to the upstream of Lake Lido, causing sedimentation and shallowing,” Hanif said in Jakarta on Thursday (02/6), 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The sealing was carried out after the KLH Law Enforcement Supervisory Team (Gakkum) conducted an on-site inspection and found a number of violations. Lido Special Economic Zone or MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone was designated as a Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on March 31, 2023 by the 7th President Joko Widodo.
This inauguration is a strategic step by the government to promote national economic growth, especially in the tourism sector. No half measures, the MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone is expected to cost an investment of IDR40 trillion.
No wonder, this jumbo project integrates the development of residential, commercial, tourist destinations and integrated resort areas on an area of 1,040 hectares out of a total area of 3,000 hectares of the Lido area.
According to its official website, the MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone is the result of a collaboration between MNC Land and The Trump Organization, the vast conglomerate empire founded by US President Donald Trump.
It is located at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level and is flanked by three mountains, namely Mount Salak, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango. Developed as a world-class integrated tourism destination, KEK MNC Lido City will present MNC World Lido, which includes MNC Park – the first international standard theme park in Indonesia.
Then retail space, restaurants, entertainment centers, luxury hotels and resorts, an 18-hole golf course designed by Ernie Els, exclusive villas and Movilenad.
In addition, there is also the first world-class outdoor music and arts festival venue in Indonesia, Lido World Garden, which will showcase the beauty of world gardens, international racetracks, universities and other supporting facilities including smart city infrastructure.
Other developments in KEK MNC Lido City include Bodogol Eco Tourism as a center for the conservation of endemic flora and fauna on Java Island, which is included in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park area, and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) as a means of public transportation integrated with commercial and residential areas.
Lido Lake Resort by MNC Hotel, which has been operating in KEK MNC Lido City, is currently being expanded and integrated with Lido Adventure Park-Outbound Area, which will be the largest in Southeast Asia. [kompas.com/photo special]
