MINISTRY STRENGTHENS INT’L COLLABORATION THROUGH CREATIVE PROJECTS

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf) is strengthening the creative economy ecosystem through international collaboration, particularly in subsectors that integrate arts and technology.

“Indonesia has great strength in creative talent and cultural diversity. We are very open to cross-border collaboration, especially those that combine arts, technology, and immersive experiences. This aligns with our efforts to make the creative economy the new engine of growth,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (04/13), 2026.

Irene Umar, along with the French delegation, is promoting the strengthening of the creative economy ecosystem through international collaborations based on innovation, technology, and culture, as part of the ICC Immersion Indonesia/Singapore program from April 11-16, 2026.

Irene Umar also encouraged the French delegation to gain a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem through direct interactions with creative practitioners in several cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Bali.

This initiative is expected to open up opportunities for knowledge exchange and strengthen networks among industry players.

“We want this collaboration to not stop at discussions, but to develop into concrete collaborations, whether in the form of co-productions, creative residencies, or joint IP development,” Irene Umar affirmed.

The ICC Immersion program, initiated by the French Embassy in Indonesia through the Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) in collaboration with Business France, involves 12 French companies from the sub-sectors of architecture and museography, immersive experiences and games, and music, cultural heritage, and live events.

During the audience, the French delegation also presented their approaches and experiences in immersive art, creative technology, music production, and museum and cultural heritage management as references for project development in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, IFI Director Jules Irrmann stated that Indonesia is a strategic partner in developing the creative industry in the Southeast Asian region.

“We see Indonesia as a very dynamic creative ecosystem with strong young talent. This program brings together French industry players with Indonesian partners to foster the birth of innovative and sustainable joint projects,” he elaborated.

This audience is part of the implementation of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and France in the creative economy sector, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2025 covering the subsectors of film, animation, crafts, culinary arts, fashion, games, and design.

Through this audience, the Ministry of Creative Economy is encouraging the acceleration of cooperation in the form of joint projects, talent exchanges, and the development of innovations relevant to the needs of the global creative industry. [traveltext.id]
