INDONESIA’s Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, attended a reception and fashion show for the PINTU France-Indonesia incubator at the French Ambassador’s residence in Jakarta.
The event showcased the results of cross-border collaboration between French fashion designers, talents from École Duperré–Paris, Indonesian designers, and local craft artisans through the PINTU Residency Program to strengthen the competitiveness of the national fashion and craft sub-sector in the global market.
The PINTU Residency Program is a strategic incubator that brings together the creativity of Indonesian and French designers with the expertise of local artisans. Through a contemporary design approach, the program transforms cultural heritage into internationally competitive products while strengthening creative diplomacy between the two countries.
In his remarks, the Minister of Creative Economy emphasized that the partnership between Indonesia and France has expanded beyond the fashion industry to include strengthening the ecosystem in the craft, design, film, animation, games, culinary, and talent mobility sub-sectors.
“Indonesia and France have built a strong friendship over the years. Cooperation between the two countries extends beyond fashion to crafts, design, film, animation, games, culinary arts, and talent development. Over the past year, we have witnessed encouraging progress, and we are now continuing to expand our partnership through various initiatives such as the PINTU Residency and the upcoming Indonesian & French Designer Cross Residency (ADIR) program,” said Rifky on Tuesday (07/28), 2026.
The Minister of Creative Economy explained that the PINTU Residency is a concrete example of how international collaboration can connect Indonesian and French designers with local artisans. Through this program, cultural heritage is combined with modern design approaches, resulting in works that add value while opening up new economic opportunities. Hope for a partnership between Indonesia and France continues to grow through various creative exchange programs, talent mobility, and collaboration across creative economy sub-sectors.
“One concrete example of this collaboration is the PINTU Residency. This program brings together French and Indonesian designers with local artisans to combine traditional craft skills with contemporary design. This program not only aims to produce beautiful products, but also serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, strengthening community ties, and creating new opportunities,” he said.
He also explained that going forward, we hope this partnership can continue to expand through more creative exchange programs, joint collaborations, talent mobility, and cooperation across various creative economy subsectors.
This year, through the Directorate of Crafts, the Ministry of Creative Economy also supported the Batik Design PINTU Residency in collaboration with the Mojokerto Regency Government. The collaboration between French designers Lisa Rayar and Mickaël Nana, Indonesian designers Gabriel Marcella and Beatrice Angelic, and Mojokerto batik artisans resulted in three works displayed in the evening fashion show, representing the fusion of cultural heritage and design innovation.
The French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, H.E. Fabien Penone stated that PINTU’s strength lies in its long-term collaboration, truly connecting France and Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the few countries in the world where a residency program like this is being developed. He hopes to bring together more participants from both countries and continue to explore and better understand the creative ecosystems in France and Indonesia.
“I am proud to announce that the two collections resulting from this program will be exhibited at the Première Classe Trade Show in Paris this October. This once again demonstrates the importance of fashion creation residency programs in Indonesia as a new instrument for strengthening creative collaboration between the two countries,” Fabien concluded.
