MINISTRY OPENS DOORS FOR FOREIGN INVESTMENT, SUPPORTS PRIORITY TOURISM

THE MINISTRY of Public Works and Public Housing (KemenPUPR) opened an opportunity to invest in infrastructure in Indonesia during a business forum at Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono in Dubai, quoted from a press release, Sunday (11/14) said that currently there are 24 projects both solicited and unsolicited worth US$19 billion, of which there are 10 Public Private Partnership projects (PPP) which is ready to be offered worth US$9.2 billion. The projects consist of 9 road projects 1aralle 1 dam project.

In a business forum on regulations and investment opportunities in the construction sector in Indonesia, Minister Basuki said that there are two platforms that entrepreneurs can use to enter and invest in the infrastructure sector.

First, as a Foreign-Owned Limited Liability Company and secondly, as a Foreign Construction Services Business Entity. Indonesia needs a budget of US$430 billion. Of the budget needs, only 30% can be covered by the State Budget.

As for the other 70%, he continued, the government issued a number of policies to remain competitive and attractive, such as the creative financing scheme, including tax incentives for new investment. The government also issued Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, which aims to open up greater opportunities for entrepreneurs to invest in infrastructure in Indonesia.

Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations are part of the government’s program to present ten new Balis. The tourist destinations included in the program are Lake Toba, Borobudur Temple, Lombok-Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.

The five super priority tourist destinations are expected to not only attract tourists, but also foster a creative economic ecosystem that involves local residents. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing’s support for the Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations is in the form of infrastructure development at each location, which is planned in an integrated manner.

These developments are in the form of structuring the area, increasing access, providing raw and clean water, managing waste, sanitation, and improving people’s housing through a master plan for infrastructure development.
