THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy revealed that the momentum of the 2024 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays will contribute IDR120 trillion to the national economy.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (01/03), 2024, he said that this Nataru can provide the latest data, so with good management of tourist attractions and wide access, the holiday Nataru has run according to projections and expectations, we are projecting IDR 120 trillion for the national economy.
“According to estimates, the surge in visitors during the Christmas holiday could reach 107 million-110 million, with the majority of visitors carrying out tourism activities. We see the potential turnover for the economy from hotel accommodation reaching a total of more than IDR108 billion,” he said.
He explained, calculated from occupancy of around 70% for 10 days with the number of rooms based on the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) around 15,500, room prices around IDR1 million, so this projection is our reference. The Nataru moment monitoring survey took place from December 30 2023-January 15 2024, where 934 foreign tourist respondents showed a shift in the profile of foreign tourists during the Christmas season.
“For example, domestic tourists choose to stay at the house of relatives or relatives; the duration of the tour is 1-1.5 hours, more than 60% of domestic tourists use private vehicles; and millennial women dominate domestic tourist travellers,” Sandiaga remarked.
And tourism within the city/district and outside the city/district within the province is the most popular choice compared to other destinations. Natural tourism such as mountains, zoos and culinary delights with the family are still favorites
Meanwhile, on this occasion the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, revealed that there were 5,328,238 foreign tourists coming to Bali until the end of 2023. This is more than Sandiaga’s target of 4.5 million visits. Meanwhile, domestic tourist visits to Bali reached 9,877,911.
Tjok Bagus also explained the problem of traffic jams that occurred on the road to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali during the Christmas season. He explained that there are a number of points in souvenir centers that only have limited parking capacity, so they take up sections of the road to use as parking.
He added that yesterday’s experience, with yesterday’s traffic jam, is certainly a lesson for us, so that this year it doesn’t happen again like that, if we look at the number of vehicles at the end of the year compared to those that were congested yesterday.
“Actually, at Christmas the number of vehicles was higher, but there were several points where the Minister of Transportation said that at the souvenir center, the parking capacity was still limited, so leaving the parking lot for the route instead of the road was taken, that made a note for us,” Tjok Bagus concluded.
